By Dr.McLeod
Dr McLeod is a Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky. His Professional department is Educational Leadership. He is the author of the post"Don't teach your kids this stuff. Please" After reading this post I would have to agree that technology will keep your kids on step ahead. As we all know kids should not be on the internet with all the bad things that we have going on in the the world today without their parents or teachers supervision. Dr.McLeod spoke of some great points in his post that should be used as a wake up call to parents today.
After watching both videos I have mixed feeling about the ischool concept. First I would like to thank Travis Allen for coming up with such a unique concept at such a young age. Travis Allen compared the price of the Iphone to the things that students use in school everyday, but what I did not see is who will be responsible for paying for the Iphones. Just thinking about the budget cuts that he spoke of at the beginning of the video, schools will not be able to afford to buy each student an Iphone. What about the kids that do not have computers and internet access at home? When thinking about ways to improve technology in school today the cost should play a big factor in the planing.
The applications that can be downloaded on the Iphone would be a great tool for studying and learning. I do not think this would be a great thing to introduce as a replacement to the things that we use in the class today. Although many of the devices we use in the class room today are old they're still what we call technology. I am all for a change in the way we teach our students in the classroom. We must understand that this is something that is going to take some time and planing.
So many people so many sounds and simply amazing. This video definitely takes technology to the next level. If anybody has any questions about what to look forward to in the future this will be a video to show just where to start.
Teaching in the 21st Century by Kevin Roberts
I think Robert's meaning of teaching in the 21st Century is one of the most unique and on point views I have watched. Although the same topics that are used in all the videos such as the use of the following: Facebook, Google, Twitter, Blogs ,etc. Robert used the phrase "teach how to use". We know that technology is changing and students are experts on the internet and social networking sites at a early age, but can they use these sites to learn and be productive? Robert's comparisons to engage or entertain also sets his video apart from the rest of the videos I watched this semester. Everyone else is looking at all the new apps and devices they can introduce to the class room and not how we can engage students in learning. This will affect me in some great ways because this is the kind of teacher I plan to be. A how to kind of teacher helps students learn how to work on there own to find resources and be more self reliant. This teaching style will help deliver great students ready for the future.
Reading Rockets
Reading Rockets is a site for parents, teachers, principals, librarians and any other professionals that work with students. If you visit the site you will find that it is very user friendly. Reading Rockets will help any teacher but will be very helpful for first year teachers like we all will soon be.The site gives you tips on teaching reading to students. The site will also have blog from teachers so you can see how the results of the site works.
Reading Rockets is a site that will definitely go into my journal for reference in my teaching career. When I opened the site the black history project caught my eye. The site also gives you ideas to use on every holiday that ties to reading. With my major being Special Education a site to teach reading skills would be useful. A little off subject but, I did not think that this class would teach me so much about being an educator. In the words of Dr. Strange I'm teaching you to teach yourself.

Langwitches - Pod-casting With 1st Grade
The Benefits of Pod casting in the Classroom by Joe Dale
Judy Scharf Podcast Collection
My comments on Pod-casting
Wow! I did not know that there was some much put into pod-casting. I know the assignment only asked to watch three but I could not help but look at the rest to see what I was missing. The excitement of the first graders was just overwhelming. Just to think of six and seven year olds reading and then comprehending to make a pod-cast was joy to my ears. I think that pod-casting would engage not only younger students but old students as well. To be honest I was kind of worried about the pod-cast assignment because I did not know anything about a pod-cast. Now I am ready and excited about our pod-cast, so I hope my group members feel the same. More importantly I am looking forward to teaching and setting up pod-cast assignments. A few things I plan to make sure we incorporate in our pod-cast assignment is: make sure the point is clear to the listener, make sure we speak well, and be creative. I enjoyed each and every podcast and look forward to using some of the teaching styles in the class room.

Blog Post 3
Technology in Special Education
I really don't want to sound weak minded but this video touched me. Not only because I am a Special Education Major, but also because I have family members that were considered to be special students. I enjoyed hearing the teacher stating that she uses power point and sends assignments through email. In the past I have talked to a special educator who told me that in special education we teach life skills other than learning. I think that with the new technology we can teach more than just everyday life skills.
One of the best things in the video was the teacher looked like she was having just as much fun as the students. You can tell she had a passion for teaching and those students made her smile. The video also showed some of the new technology that we use in the classroom today as well as some of the old. The students were knowledgeable of how to use the old, but much rather use the new computers.
My app
The app called Match Me Autism Series, evaluate the matching skills of the student. The app has a number of different learning games. The app will introduce learning, as well as fun. I plan to use this app to teach similarities between different pictures and words. The app can also be used as a testing tool for memorization. This app will improve learning by adding a fun and easy way to remember pictures and words without just using paper.
Gary Hayes Social Media Count
I think that this site is showing that soon everything will be shared by technology. The number of people on Facebook and many other social networking site increase every second. Also the age of people using the sites change every year. As a future educator, I think that our lesson plan is going to have to be internet ready. Communication to parents will mostly be done through text messages or emails.
I think as a educator, we must keep up with the most recent technology to keep the students engaged in what we teach. Going into the schools today most students know more about technology than the teacher. I remember being asked in one of my classes in high school to connect the DVD player for a movie we had to watch in class. Now we have Blue Ray players and Netflix, so the change is coming, we must keep up.
Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
The video states a lot of claims from the students point of view. Its states many different issues that college students deal with on a daily basis. The video was made as a wake up call to the University of Kansas State, to fix the issues. The Professors at the college should feel clueless after watching the video. At the end of the video you will see a link for anyone who wants to try and fix the issues.
I think this video is not just a wake up call for the University of Kansas State, but to all University's.
We all buy books that we don't use, write papers that have nothing to do with our major. College overall is very expensive, yet we have students that pay for school and don't come to class. I think it's crazy how we never take the time to examine ourselves until someone makes a video and you see yourself on a note. In my opinion the video was talking to teachers, students and parents. There is a change to be made, but it starts with ourselves.
